today i went to my LFS and was happy to find two very nice pieces of driftwood that i really like i want to get some more though but i want to know about how much driftwood costs because i paid about 30 bucks for the two pieces at about 6 dollars a pound. Is more than normal and if so where can i get some good driftwood for a reasonable amount of cash if its the norm than im happy with that -lol- thanks

oh try ebay .. i got some rally nice pieces for $3.50 each .. and bought 4 of them .. here is a link to the person i got them from .. they dont have an right now but keep checking .. they have some really nice pieces and are great people .. and no i dont know them personaly .. they are just trust worthy people on ebay .. and there pieces you will have to let them soak for about a week to 2 weeks .. and all safe for aquariums..

you should be careful of ebay driftwood because anybody can go to the local lake or river and take wood out and sell it as "driftwood" on ebay. It might not be treated or might not even be driftwood! it could be just a piece from a branch!

these peices came from a pet store close out .. and ive allready gotten the wood and cheked it out .. and they are safe .. and were also very dry .. like i stated it has taken about a week to 2 weeks for it to sink.. these people that i posted the link of are very trusting.. and honest people.. and i know ive seen alot of people that have just picked up wood and oh cool ill sell that on ebay and it isnt good wood at all ..
but that is why i posted this link .. i have some of the wood and know that it is safe..

hmm not sure if you did .. we paid $14 for 4 pieces .. and this amount would easily fill a 60g tank.. if you want more check out the link i posted.. and they are also in New Mexico so they are close to you ..just keep cheking there auction they do add stuff every night .. and i talked to them about a week ago and they said they had 2 boxes of the stuff.. but i know they have posted alot ..

Yeah way too much I also got mine on ebay and I bought mine it was heat treated so all the bacteria was dead.

Hrm, I'd be cautious if I were you. That's the same type of driftwood that is used for reptiles -- Swahalla bogwood -- and if it was intended for use with reptiles then it's probably been treated with an anti-fungial made for reptiles.

If it was gotten from a pet store close out, there's probably no way for you to know, but any store that I've been in that had that type of wood has always had it in the reptile section.

My LFS sells Mopani specifically for aquariums and it sinks immediately. The bogwood for reptiles does not sink at all.

Just a cautionary note,

Roan

no this wood had not been treated .. at all..
it was there stuff from the pet store.. and most of it has finally sunk it was just very dry wood .. and we havent had any problems with it in the tanks ..

I bought my drift wood from this place aquaticeco.com It was about $5 for a piece that is 11-17" long. The only thing is is that there is a minimum order charge of $5. I paid about $20 for it, but it is a nice piece too.
