Driftwood Dominated Tanks

I have recently gotten the driftwood bug and now I want to change my aquarium to an amazon biotype. I have some sweet driftwood waiting for me to take from woods on my companies property. Any suggestions or tips to make it look good? Any picks.....
 
From your company's property?? Is the wood from the water?? I would be carefull... the wood may contain chemicals, ect that may kill fish.

It is from the woods. Many people take wood from above the water line and make it look great underwater......Chemicals, none whatsoever!!! The wildlife is amazing, I have never seen such numbers of frogs, which are environmental indicators.
 
Just my personal opinion but i would never take wood from the wild and use it ,its just to risky....
 
I've tried making driftwood unsuccessfully. I had it soaking underwater with some weights for about a year and it still wouldn't sink by itself,. Also after a year of soaking it still made the water smell skunky. I ended up chucking the wood and wishing I didn't waste the time and energy trying to DIY.

I ended up purchasing a few hundred dollars worth (around 50 nice sized pieces) of Malaysian Driftwood and couldn't be happier with the purchase. Maylaysian driftwood is much more beautiful than anything you'll find locally. Maylaysian drifwood will sink without any weights also.

I guess beauty is in the eye of the beholder......I have heard people with sucess if you dump hotwater on it and bleach it. If you leave any wood in a stagnant bucket of water it will smell, if you had areation and still had the smell that is a different thing
 
i guess it would be ok to put wild driftwood in a tank as long as there are no chemicals which in your case there arent. good luck and show us some pics when its finished. i personally dont know what im doing so i just buy it from the lfs.
 
I think it is a lot better to buy it from the lfs because you run really no risk any of any harm to your fish, and c'mon we've all spent a ton of money on our tanks for the most part, whats 7.99? (which is actuall a high price for driftwood!!!)
