I just did some work for a customer who had a custom made 280 glass salt water aquarium. It was built into the wall of his den with the other side facing his dedicated fish room. The back side held a 29 gallon hospital/quarantine tank.
As soon as he realized that I was a fish enthusiast he gave me the grand tour while I drooled away. He was running a 50 gallon sump with a uv sterilizer. I am not sure about the rest of the filtration. Light was provided by 2 metal halides.
Being a fresh water guy (so far) I did not recognize a lot of the inhabitants but he did have a yellow tang, many shrimp (including a pistol shrimp, a hermit crab, at least 50 lbs of live rock, some anenomes and over 50 snails.
He said that it all started 3 years ago with a 90 gallon that he bought used. (which was sitting idle in his back shed).
After seeing this set up I think I'll be looking into a salt water set up.
