Duct Tape in RES tank (or a safe silicon)

I have a piece of acryllic that I am going to use for a basking shelf in an RES tank, but it will need a ramp. I have a glass cover from a 2.5 gallon that I never use, and I was thinking I could attach it at an angle and then wrap the whole thing in plastic mesh (window screen) to give it some traction. The only way I can think to connect the two pieces is with tape or with silicon. I don't have the silicon, and stuff that is non-toxic to fish is expensive I think. Can I use duct tape if it will come into contact with the water? If not, is there a cheap silicon that I can use (brand name please)?

Ok, please don't use duct tape in your tank, that adhesive is toxic. I use AQUA-TECH Aquarium sealant. I get it a Walmart and its like 5 bucks for a 3 fl oz tube. 100% clear silicone rubber. It you get a tube of it you can draw 'lines' on your glass too, then you wouldn't have to worry about the netting either.

You don't have to buy aquarium sealant. You can just go to the hardware department and pick up a tube off 100% silicone. It's either GE I or GE II i don't remember off hand which one. Just read the label and make sure it doesn't have any antibacterial agents in it. Instead of $5 for a 3oz tube it's like $3 for huge tube.

GE silicone 1 and GE 1200 series are both quite safe for aquarium use.

I believe there are 2 versions of both GE Silicone I and Silicone II, one that's mold & mildew resistant and one that's not. As said above, you want the one that does not have the mold & mildew resistance. I don't know if this is something new or not but lately I'm noticing that they are now putting out a mold & mildew resistant version of the "Window & Door" Silicone I/II. So you can assume that the "Kitchen & Bath" type are always gonna have the mold & mildew resistance, and now you gotta pay close attention to the "Window & Door" type to make sure it's not the mold and mildew resistant version.
