well as most begginners my lfs sold me a common pleco, not knowing how big it would get and now as sad as it makes me i have to get rid of him but i don'T want to kill him but i dunno what else to do i put ads up that i would give him away and no luck
any ideas??

how big is your pleco? have you tries the classifieds on this site to see if anybody lives near you might want him? i would take him but i'm sure you live a great distance from me...

Try returning him to the lfs explain to them you did not realize the size he would grow to.

it's been 2 years so i really don't think they would take it back now

Well he'S now about 3 1/2'', i tried on facebook and craigslist never thought of on here maybe it'S try that not sure there is too many people in montreal, quebec on here but it'S worth a try
thanks all

As a general rule most fish shops are going to take any and all healthy fish for rehoming, just dont expect any compensation. If the fish are particularly nice you may get store credit, this is probably not one of those situations.

my local fish stores will rehome any HEALTHY fish if you bought it from them or not just because it has been a while since you bought it ask them what do you have to lose?

I wouldn't do anything rash. If he's only 3½ inches you've got some time; yes, he needs rehoming- but don't kill the poor thing even if you can't find an immediate home.

Just keep trying- if the LFS won't take him- ask around- chances are one of your friends has a large aquarium and would love to adopt him.

Are you sure it is a common? If you have had it for 2 years and it is only 3 1/2" it may not be.

I confused too.
3.5" is small. Even BN can be bigger than that.

What is your tank size? For most tank, I think 3.5" is not a big fish.

can you post pictures? I agree with snoopy - if it is 3.5 inches after two years, I would bet it is not a common pleco. There are many types of pleco that have an adult size of 2-8 inches, and if you can post pics, we can help ID it.
