This is the second round in a month. The first hatching was at the very end of a new cycling tank, that babies all died. Three days after the last of them disappeared they laid more eggs. We are two days into that and the female is getting a very light color, isn't eating very much and is acting listless. Is this normal? I didn't notice it the first time, but the first time didn't pay much attention because they had practiced a couple of times and nothing happened so wasn't watching as closely. I am a nervous wreck thinking she is sick. Can someone help, and is there something I can do to help some of the fry survive? Tank is now cycled and we have the family separated from others in the tank with a partition. Any information or help would be greatly appreciated.

Yes, it is normal.

If you worry, net the fry out after they have become free swimmers. If you have another tank, put the parents and the fry together.

Once your cichlids breed every month, you will not be as nervous. After awhile, it just doesn't affect you as much.

Thanks

Thank you, you have made me feel so much better. I am not sure we are really equipped to deal with a mated pair. A couple of the local shops said they would take a few when they get to about 1/2 inch or so, but if we end up with more, we just don't have the room. One of the shops has offered to buy the pair, but I do like the idea of raising them if we can find a way, would help to pay for this obcession we seem to have. Thanks again

I assume you have L. Curviceps (Flag cichlid). Not many LFS I know of have these species.

If you do want to raise the fry, you need to get liquid fry food. You can find those fry food in any LFS.
