Hi, hehe, sorry I posted frequently, but I have a pair of african dwarf frogs, the contents of my tank are listed below, I've had these frogs far longer than my tank and have and still am keeping the seperated, would it be safe to introduce them to the tank? as I heard they are commonly used for food.

Also, to prevent me from making a new post, are there any kind of fish other than neon tetra's that survive red belly piranha's?

If I kind introduce the frogs, no worries i'll just continue things as i do now.

one more thing, the frogs are living with a redbelly newt currently, i cant put him in the tank as he needs to come out of the water on ocasion, will he be lonely without the frogs? as he is alone, and would i be able to drain some water and add something floating like a lilly pad to introduce him to thetank aswell?

thanks if you read that all, any replies would be appreciated. :thud:

IMO, frogs and fish are not a great mix. The frogs don't compete for food as well as most fish, so tend to starve if not target fed. Ditto for the newt.

Neons and piranha? Huh? Piranha are generally kept best in species only tanks--they will eat any fish that's an appropriate size, and while an adult may ignore a neon, juveniles won't.

Okay, i'll just leave as they are, thanks for the reply, okay, I'll let my friend know, some pet store guy told us neon tetra's secrete an oil that tastes displeaseing and after one or two are eaten they should leave them alone, thanks again.

Dwarf Frogs are perfectly fine with Neons, White Clouds, etc etc.

Small peaceful fish get along with the frogs.

There's no way a fully grown ADF is going to eat a fully-grown Neon, I just don't see it happening.

As for food, I just feed my Neons first, and then as they are busy getting the flakes, I put in the frog/tadpole food (it sinks). Even if the Neons go after the frog food, it's too big for them and they let it drop.

I would research this intensively before believing it--neons are a prey food for many, many fish, including angels--which are their primary predator in the wild. If the neons were able to adapt a defensive mechanism, it would target angels, and this just isn't the case. I'd suspect the employee was being creative to make a sale.

I can voutch for that. I used to own 11neons with my ABF, but after about a month i was down to 8, now i only have 6. Not to mention ive picked up a few here and there from trips to my lfs. All in all ive lost about 6+ neons

Ah, Neons are quite the wussies, their not for beginers I take it.

Also, I've been reading some fishtank species combos over on elmer's site:
http://www.elmersaquarium.com/

, and it says dwarf frogs are good with angels and such, I dont know if this is true, but, It's doubtful I will put them in because they would probably get in some disputes with my bottom feeding loaches, although, I might possibly be getting another used tank, I'll be looking at in and some other, possibly either a 40 or 50 gallon, but doubtful I will be making any purchases soon.

Please check out the link in my signature. It's to an article I wrote up for the Articles Section on ADFs. It should answer any ADF questions you might have.

Fish and frogs can be fine together....in the appropriately sized aquarium. Anything over 29g and you're going to have a hard time. The smaller the better (ie 10 gallons) but you will need to target feed the frogs anyway.

Thank you! I read your articles and were a lot of help! i'll just continue keeping them as I do now, also, I loved the pictures, your tank is wicked! what kind of grass did you use? it looks like normal outside grass, except lime green and a bit thinner. thanks again!
