I just noticed one of my male dwarf gouramis has an injured mouth on one side. Anybody know why? I have a 55 gal with:
1 cory catfish
2 peppered corydoras
5 serpae tetras
5 tiger barbs
5 dwarf gouramis
4 mollies
5 orange Von Rio tetras
2 plecos

It's been set up for about 2 months with no problems so far. I'm really worried about this guy and if it's something that will affect my other fish. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks!

Lisa

And now yet another one has a big bloody hole in his side, I believe from another gourami who was butting him earlier. Wtf is going on??

I have several Gourami and they are pretty aggressive with one another on occasion. I have only experiened some tattered fins but have nearly separated a few of them at times because it was getting so bad.

Both of those gouramis have since died, even though I put one in an isolation tank.

And I also found out this is a viral disease common to dwarf gouramis. Just thought you all should know. It's deadly.

I know it's too late now, but dwarf Gourami get bacterial infections very easily. It was probably where you got them that they caught the infection. In my opinion at that point you should remove the fish and back it back or keep it out of the main tank. Sorry about your gourami though i've experienced the same thing

Yes, I found out all about this infection that happens to these guys. I lost two males. The two I have left and the female are all doing well, so I hope that's the end of it. Thanks for responding!

off topic but your cories will be MUCH happier in a larger school

Yep, I do realize that NOW that I've been participating in a few forums and finding out all sorts of good information that the LFS just doesn't have a clue about. I know that ignorance is no excuse, but I thought in the beginning that the staff of the LFS would at least be helpful in choosing my stock ... wrong!! :( But I've had surprisingly few losses and now things have settled down a lot. I live in a town that's called The End of the Road and there are no fish stores here. We're planning a trip into the Big City to get some additional fish and plants. Corys are definitely on the list!
