I've read that brackish and saltwater puffer fish need to eat snails reguarly to wear down their teeth. Does that go for the freshwater Dwarf Puffer as well? I gotta think it wouldbe tough to find sanils small enough for him to eat...
Bump
I have had a Dwarf Puffer for over a year and still am not sure whether they NEED snails. I try and put snails in with him whenever I can. He hunts them down, so I know he likes them, but would love to KNOW if it neccessary for sure so will be looking for an answer here as well.
i know this is true with gsp's but im pretty sure they have the same kinf of beak/tooth, actually there are plenty of snails that would be there size, but if your gonna do that your going to want to set up a 5g snail breeding tank so you can get them that small, it was really cheap $7.00 for a tank, $11.00 for a light, $6.00 a few plants, $8.00 for an air pump and air stone...
look at the top pic next to the dime, thats my biggest snail.

there area about 10 bigger snails and about 50 small ones
If you don't care about looks then I used to raise my snails in a 2 litre ice cream container with some java moss in it. I would throw in some sliced cucumber or celery every so often and a little fish food. They bred like crazy.
A real snail tank would look nicer though. And you can even raise snails in a regular community tank.
I recommend pond snails and common rams horn. You just need a few to get started.
I have a figure eigth and he loves cockles in there shell, frozen. It quite funny to watch him try and open then cockle that keeps his beak down, but you would have to check for a dwarf not sure. Hope this helps
