hello everyone. i'm new to this forum and i have a question for those who live in nyc and surrounding areas. i have a 4 gallon for a dwarf puffer. problem is, i cant find this fish anywhere. anyone have recommendations on where to obtain this elusive fish? if not, any suggestions on what to get? the tank mentioned has a little snail infestion so something that feeds on these snails would be great.
thanks.

those fish shouldnt be too hard to find. ive seen them soooo many times in petco, sometimes in petsmart also. if you dont like buying fish from those places aquabid.com and liveaquaria.com has them but you will need to pay for shipping which can be a little expensive if ordering just one or two fish. i would find a decent LFS and see if they can order one or some for you.

You don't have any other fish in the aquarium, do you? Puffers tend not to play well with others. The tank is a little on the small side for dwarf puffers, so if you find them, only get one. Any more and you'd likely see some aggression. Good luck with your search!

thanks for the response everyone. i was able to find a dwarf at petsmart although the salespeople were surprised to have them in stock since they did not have these little critters for a while. the tank has an oto, a few small ghost shrimp and a gold mystery snail. if the dwarf starts nipping at the snail, i'll move the snail to my 10g.

Letsgometsreyes: i think i'll check that place out. thanx.

Where is there a petsmart in nyc cuz I have never seen one and i would like to check it out.

Your tank maybe too small for even a dwarf... they can be messy eaters (SNAIL DEBRIS) and foul up small tanks quickly. Also watch out for the other tankmates--I agree, puffers can be agressive (don't let their cute smile deceive you). Goodluck!

I haven't had any problems. I have my pygmy puffers in with a tank with two bumblebee gobies. Never had a problem there. if the pygmy's pester, then the gobies pester right back. BTW puffers prefer brackish water...not too much salt...
