Hello, im kinda new to puffers and decided to get a dwarf. I went into petsmart and informed me that my ph should be around a 8 (hardwater) and add a little salt. Reading from past posts, it seems his advice is incorrect?

There are many puffers, but only a few dwarf puffers. The dwarf puffers most frequently seen will not tolerate long term exposure to salt. A community tank pH (between 6.8 and 7.5) is fine. He's clearly wrong--not that unusual when talking about puffers. They are hard to correctly identify, use a variety of common names, and seldom come from the LFS in appropriate water.

Sigh.

Agree w/OG - the dwarf puffers are FW, and need no salt at all. There are at least two and perhaps three species, all very, very close kin, and all are FW lake fish with no contact with SW or BW possible in their environment.
