I'm thinking about getting a pair of dwarf puffers for my 10g tank but I already have a very large snail in it. I was just wonder if they would go after something so big. This snail is so big that if you were to cut a tennis ball in half and try to fit him inside, it would be a rather tight fit. I know that dp's eat snails and i also know that if they are too big to fit in their mouths that they will just eat the snail out of its shell. But would my snail be endangered?

BTW: my mom calls him the snail that ate the neighborhood! :p

they may ignore it completely, or they may attack it at every chance.... i dont think they will be able to kill it, but it will most likely have some bites taken out of it....

theres not really any way of knowing until you put them together....

As a dwarf puffer enthusiast, I would recomend not doing it. Dwarf puffers are aggressive fish and snails are their natural prey. You might get lucky with it. Juvenile DP's tend not to go after large snails, but there are plenty of horror stories where DP's killed snails similar to the size of yours. Check out dwarfpuffers.com for all the info you need about puffers.

Thanks you guys. I'm really interested in dp's and I'd really like to get some. I've been talking to a friend of mine that has a much larger aquarium and I think they may take "Jumbo". I think he'd be much happier with more room to...er...run...

Shmoo (or anyone else that has had experience w/ dp's): have you ever kept dp's w/ otos, and if so, did you ever have any trouble with the dp's attacking the otos?

Thanks so much!
Steph

otos are consided the best companions for dwarf puffers. They will just ignore each other mostly. At first the puffers tend to harass the otos a little, but in short time they will just completely ignore the other.
