I want to get a couple of dwarf puffers in my 10g, but i read online they need sand on the bottom of the tank as opposed to gravel, is this true or does it not really matter?

I've also never heard that. I have dwarf puffers with gravel and they're doing great. Only thing is, it's a little bit harder to find the snails I drop in there as snacks. I suppose sand would make it easier for them to hunt in. I think it doesn't really matter to the puffs, but is a matter of your personal preference :)

Just be sure, if you use sand, to poke it every once awhile. The compactness of the small grains means that anaerobic (no oxygen) pockets can form. Anaerobic bacteria in freshwater do all kinds of nasty things, like produce toxic sulfur gas.

i am using a very fine gravel and they love it. One time I actually found him all but buried in the substrate ... It is difficult tos ee them with those clever spots and shy nature. They can blend into anything.

It's impossible to get snails out of it though. I'll figure it out somehow.

awww, how adorable. They really are the cutest little guys :)

i once thought of getting dp's, but i had a crisis in my 10 gallon and all my tanks were used as temporary holding areas, but most of those fish died...i just may get a pair of dp's soon :p:
