I picked up 3 DP's and 3 Pygmy corys today for my ten gallon, which is heavily planted. Is there a problem with keeping DP's with otos and pygmy cories?

As of a few hours into them being in the tank the puffers are all exploring and the corys are schooling around the tank nicely. There are 2 otos and a few RCS in the tank too.

Dwarf Puffers should be kept in species only tanks, sometimes people get away with otos, but DP's are able to pick on fish much bigger than themselves, so keeping the cories with them is not a good idea.

I agree. I got one dwarf puffer because I had a heavy outbreak of snails. I added the puffer and within 10 minutes it was eating snails left and right. I thought I had enough snails to keep it happy for a long, long time. The next day, there were still a ton of snails in the tank but the puffer started going after any fish that was within one foot of it. It nipped my platies' tails and fins relentlessly. After one more day I took the little guy back to my LFS.

Based off my experience and the advice I should have taken before buying the puffer, they should be kept in species only tanks, maybe with otos. The puffers were kept with otos at the LFS and they seemed to be just fine with them, but I doubt anything else is compatible. Even in my 55 gallon the puffer seemed to stake out every other fish and attack them. It's a shame, dwarf puffers are rad!

I do agree with them but in all honesty, it would really come down to wether the dwarf puffers will be aggressive to the Corydoras or not. I'd keep an eye out and be ready to move the Pgymies to a different tank if need be. Good luck dude!

thanks guys, I figured that the corys would behave like otos, and that they wouldn't be messed with.

Why in the world would cories behave like otos??? I think that 3 puffers will destroy 3 cories, and then in that small of a tank, there will likely be 1 puffer winner. I know JB kept 5 in a 29g heavily with no other fish except otos and was successful.

according to most sites, 2-3 puffers is fine in a 10 gallon. I can set-up a 5 gallon if theres any aggression, but I'm going to put the corys in a tank with my betta.

I can't speak on dwarf puffers but I have a green spotted in my 55 with cories and peacock eels and he leaves them all alone.

The puffers will be fine but there will be some agression. The cories will likely work for a little while but will inevitably be shredded.

Would pygmy corys witha male betta be bad in a planted 5 gallon?
