I've heard that pipefish are good tankmates for dwarf seahorses. Is this true? I'm especially interested in the bluestripe pipefish. Any info would be helpful!

Pipe fish are good with them, cleaner shrimp are good aswell, clown gobies do well, mandarins (dragonetts), mainly peacful small fish that wont out compete for food.

mandarins

I like mandarins, but don't they need a tank of at least 30 gallons? My tank for my drarf seahorses is only 2.5 gallons, which was the size recommended to me for the dwarfs.

In a tank that small I wouldnt put any other fish. Your Bio load will be to high.
2.5 while big enough for a pair of dwarfs. Is going to be very unstabel biologicaly.
You'd be better off with a 5Gal or even better a 10gal.

Didn't realize the tank was so small, i would go with a 10 gallon. Much more stable, and have a DSB. i wouldn't add a mandarin unless it was eating frozen, otherwise your minimum tank of 75 gallons, or a smaller tank with a refugium.
