In you guys opinion what are some of the easiest common fish to breed? Im talking like platy easy that you really dont have to do much for them? Like which smaller egg layer, mouth brooder, etc, prolly everything besides live bearers. I have bred platies numerous times and was just curious what other kind of fish breed really easy?? I hope to have some good feedback!!

guppies and bristlenose plecos top my list. I don't keep livebearers but I do keep BNs. Good luck.

Don't know about bns but in general any livebearer with guppies probably being the easiest. With egg layers I'd go with convicts by far. I've heard people say Danios are easier. They require a special setup though.

Many Cichlids are easy to breed. Kribsensis are a great choice as they stay small and are not overly aggressive in a community tank.

Convicts!!!! Hands down.

For egg layers- convicts get my vote. I swear, all you need is a male, a female, a puddle and an old shoe - you'll soon have fish coming out of your ears!

Kribsensis are a great choice as they stay small and are not overly aggressive in a community tank.

First egg laying fish I've had to breed were Kribs. After a couple of months of getting them and putting them in a community tank (only other fish were a couple of platys, couple of red eye tetras and otocinclus) they had babies... I'm guessing at least 50 from the look of it. That was 2 months ago. My son was doing a water change and vacuumed the gravel after thinking we got all the fry out. After he disturbed their cave and put everything back, he saw the dad frantically going around sucking up eggs and putting them back in the cave..... so I'll guess we'll have some more soon. We're hoping he had most of them in his mouth already before he started vacuuming. We didn't think they would spawn again that soon... so gonna have to change the way we do maintenance on that tank from now on.

They are beautiful fish too.

For egg layers, kribs are really easy and beautiful. Plus, they can be kept in a community tank. I had mine in a community, and even when breeding they weren't overly aggressive to their tank mates. I did use the trick of putting their flower pot for breeding by one side of the glass so that half of their area they were defending was outside the tank.

Convicts are also very easy to breed. They bred all the time at the pet store. And, this was a big box store. They get quite aggressive though, even when not breeding, and especially so when breeding.

I've heard (but have no experience with) that BN's are fairly easy to breed, and cherry barbs can be easy (in a species only tank), and some of the other cichlids are also easy to breed. I think we had yellow labs breed in the store too. Many cichlids will breed as long as you have males and females together, much like live bearers.

Those kribs sound really interesting, i guess i didnt know about them because i never wanted to go the cichlids route cuz i always thouse they got really big and were mean and could have many other types of fish in the tank. So they can be kept in a community tank? Do they get big enough to eat lets say dwarf gouramis or platies? How do you sex/tell the gender of BN plecos? i have one of them cuz the average pleco gets to fricken huge and i also have a clown pleco and both dont get over 5 inches i think! How do you breed them? Its kinda funny that i wrote this today and i went to my LFS and got 4 ghost/glass shrimp and i get home and look at them and 3 of the 4 are holding eggs!! Anyone have exp in knowing about when they let them go and how to take care of the babies? I would like to raise quite a few of them so i would never have to buy them again and could just use my own! The fourth one must be a male cuz it doesnt have any eggs!! Does anyone know how to breed any type of those little cory cats? I read somewhere that they are easy! When i wrote this i wanted fish compared to how easy livebearing fish are to breed and the ones you guys stated, would they really be that easy?
