Hi everyone,

i have currently got a nearly empty marine tank all i have is a coral banded shrimp and a star fish and live rock. just wondering what are the best easy corals to start with for a beginner and secondly will i have to remove my star fish with coral

Here are a few easy corals for a beginner..

Finger Leather, Cabbage leather, Toadstool leather, Colt coral, Most tree corals, Mushroom, Zooanthid Polyps, Yellow or Green Star Polyps..

A few there for you to research..

I would say most kinds of star fish are able to be kept by someone who at least has a few months under their belt..Just research one that you see to make sure its reef safe or compatible..Star fish feed mainly on algae and detrius or scraps of food left on the substrate..

brittle starfish will be fine with corals
how old is your tank? what lighting do you have? what fish are you planning to keep?

I hope it's not a green brittle starfish. They do eat fish. :(

all of them will eat anyfish they can. the green ones jsut get large enough. it does happen on occation but it usualy isnt a healthy fish that is eaten. it is a risk you have with allmost all starfish, and a minor one at that.

the tank has been running almost 8 months now. im not sure about all the technical stuff but i have the duel globe lighting with the white and purple globes which the LFS said would be sufficient for corals. At this point im thinking a coral only tank with the star and coral banded shrimp.
