Eating Aquarium Fish

Interesting fish to use as subject on this matter...
Dr. Herbert Axelrod, I believe, in one of his books there is actually a comment on such a meal while he was doing some research in the Amazonian area. From what I understand they are quite distasteful, not even to be classified as an "aquired taste".

That makes sense....about the products not being tested for consumption. I suppose if I would've put more than a few seconds thought into it, I probably would've come to that conclusion.

On another note....twelve goldfish in ten minutes for five hundred bucks?? Hmm, truth be told, I'd probably do it to. Can always go harf em up when no one is looking.

I think the real challenge would be to swallow a live pleco and not choke to death. Not a newly hatched one, or one over about three inches...I think a two-incher would be appropriate. I guess a pictus cat would work just the same...

Raithan Ellis,
I thought I might more response from the post, but maybe people did figure it out to be an April Fools joke.
I would never eat any of my discus. :shake:

I believe I did read an article somewhere once that irridescent sharks are raised for food in southeast Asia. As large as they get, it's not a surprise. Channel cats are also eaten, as anybody that lives in the southeastern US will know. I suppose that a lot of "tankbusters" are actually food sources where they come from.

Actually, I have had discus before....I lived in Egypt for 3 months with a family while I was in college. It was during break but the adventure was also for credits.

...anyway, the discus was imported. This family was a wealthy one and could afford to eat right! I didn't know what fish it was until I had it. Discus are much more commonly ate than most aquarists think. I might add, they taste out-of-this-world GREAT!

I dont know what discus the doc had, or experimented with but they DO taste good! I guess it depends on the kind? Then again, I'd never eat fish that I (personally) keep in my tanks but hey, the fish was good. ;)
