I recently bought A EBJD from Rapps and I was expecting it to be quite a bit bigger so my question is how can I fatten him up Quickly so I can put him in the big tank with hopefully his new mate. Anyways if anyone has any ideas just let me know.

Seems he's sending out quite a bit of tiny fish lately. The festae and haitiensis I got from him were nowhere near what they were listed as. He used to send out better than expected fish, but I've been hearing that's not the case any more and have seen it first hand.

I'm assuming it's a little over an inch? You should be able to feed it three times a day. Make sure there's nothing left over to settle and decay! Very important to keep the bottom clear of poop and food and to keep the water quality as good as you possibly can while it's growing out - a glass bottom tank is best for this. Feed a variety of good-quality foods, and you might want to feed it a few cooked and shelled peas once a week. Good luck with it!

EBJD juveniles have extrme health issues and are know to die. It's called EBJD death syndrome, and is quite common with them, I lost two 3" juveniles I had recently to it.

I always suggest when buying a EBJD to get one that's 4" or above in size.

You'll want to feed them a varied diet of pellets, and some brine shrimp every so often as a treat. I found it best to use HBH Super Soft Pellets, it fattened mine up nicely before they passed.

you could always use beefheart. my ebjd got fat quick eating that stuff

Bloodworms, brine shrimp, tetra floating sticks, peas and of course flakes. Depending on your schedule smaller and frequent feedings up to three a day. Mix it up. Mine eat it all. (lucky) Their favorite is bloodworms. Watch their bellies plump up. My two(2 1/2 in.)eat a cube and leave them hanging out their mouth when they get full. They should act hungry if not then be prepared with some meds on hand.(Jungle Parasite Clear) If your not using aquarium salt I highly recommend it. Post some pics and show them off and best of luck.

i have had a problem with these fish as well. had one that was about 3 inches and was the best looking color morph i have ever seen next to the one that made me want an ebjd. he ended up getting an internal parisite and blowing up. then i got another one and he too died. the lfs had a problem keeping them alive as well. i would not keep him out of the big tank too long in fear that he might become aggressive to others once you put him in. as for beefing him up fast, he is South American he will beef up quite fast just keep feeding him.
