I have a Eclipse I hood on a 15G High tank, i'm just curious if anyones tried doing light mod's on the fixture included with one? .. I've seen alot of light strips with the moonlights and was curious all that it would take to convert the setup for the eclipse hood to include something like this or should i just settle and purchase a seperate moonlight unit?

Thanks for any answers.

I've seen conversions for compact flourescent, but no LED moonlight mods on the net.

How do you like the Eclipse 1? It seems like a neat setup.

The eclipse one is a alright setup.. but for the money I think next time I will simply get a hang on back filter instead.

I have an eclipse hood (3 I think??) on my 37 tall. I added my own moonlight to it, but I built it myself. I used a piece of abs plastic in a sheet and mounted three blue led's in it. I cut the abs piece to the size I wanted, heated it up with a heat gun and bent it 90 degrees. This shape allowed me to wedge it in between the clear plastic cover over the bulbs and the black plastic and have the LED's aim down when the top is closed. I can give you more specific instructions if you are interested.

I bought compact flourescent lighting conversion kits for both our 37 gallon and 15 gallon eclipse hoods. I had problems with the 37 gallon kit because the bulb and reflector created too much heat, melting the clear cover and the heat from the light caused the included screws to melt the white plastic base. All in all, a very frustrating and expensive waste. We ended up throwing the entire eclipse hood away because replacement parts were too expensive.

However, the conversion kit for the 15 works great and it has not experienced any of the problems we had on the 37 gallon hood.

Thanks for the replies, I will have to give it the go. I have a 15G Tall with the Eclipse 1 on it. Read a article from a 2000 Aquarium magazine that was rather interesting on Climatizing Sailfin Mollies in a saltwater setup and would love to give it a try on this now empty tank setup. :)

I have an eclipse 2, and the only mod i have done was drill small holes on each side of the light fixture vents to allow cooling...the light was making the water too warm, so now im not worried about heat...
