no i was talking to that other guy who just started talking mad trash.

well hummm like 12 people reccomended convicts to me .

what else would make a good demsey tank mate.

something smaller bout 5 inches

how abt a flowerhorn ?? am not much aware of the JDs. yea i know they get aggressive........so if u r aware of their aggression then may be u can try out compatible sized oscars.

would work in a 75 to 100g tank but a 55 is not big enuff for an oscar and a dempsey. i would even hesitate to put a oscar in it alonedempseys get 8 inches commonly oscars gewt 14 on average. see the diffrence

Flowerhorn? NO this is probably one of the meanest fish out there not to mention it gets huge it is not a canidate for a 55g tank

yeah i spent alot of time researching fish before i decided a JD would be ok in a 55. when i was younger i inherited a JD in a 20g (he was almost 8 inches) from a crackhead my wifes mom was dating. back then i had no internet and no idea what i was doing. the tank was almost covered in algea . hell we just felt we had to keep it alive cause he just left it when he moved out of state. he didnt even have room to swim im sure he couldnt have been happy. there was so much algea you could only see him if he was agaisnt the side of the tank. people would coem over and ask us what was in there. whe had no idea what it was. we were all like "ummm a big fish" eventually uhh i dunno somehow he wasent with us a few moves later there was alot of pot smoking in those days and i donbt exactly remember what happened to him but yeah now i want another and do it right in a 55.

i have no interest in a flowerhorn . just not my type . too pink and orange

im more of a darker person i like the dempsys are about right for me

and i was planning on useing sand and i know the cichlids like to dig but i wasent sure that would be enuff to prevent gass buildup. so i was considering a freshwater eel. researched a bit and found the tire track to be just too darn big. and now im looking to see what opinions you guys have on zig zags.

You can always stir the sand yourself every week or two to prevent toxic gas buildup. In my opinion, no matter how many digging fish you get, there will be one small area that they won't dig in until the gas buildup is enough to kill the whole tank.
