Can i put a fire eel in a tank with community fish? or in a chiclid tank?

I've had a Tire Track Eel in my community tank for a long time. I just had to make sure that the other inhabitants were not too small or they would become eel food. I'm not to sure about in a chiclid tank. Africans pH is very alkaline whereas South Americans are towards the acidic side. The eel can probably adapt to either situation though.
