Hi, I just received my eheim 2217 and so far I am happy about it but I have 2 questions:

1- Am I missing a part? I found this pic online:

I dont have the hose sleeve (circled in red), but i have the crooked rigid part (circled in blue).
My friend bought a 2217 about 2 years ago and he doesnt have the blue part but he has the red?? So am I missing a part or did they just stop including the hose sleeve??

2- How far from the canister should i cut the ose to fit the stopping valve? I am reading various thing, some say halfway through, some say close to the canister? How will this affect maintenance?

Thx!

The hose sleeve is usually used when you have a spray bar. It isn't needed if you use the shepherds crook outflow. If you have presurized CO2, you'll probably want the over the side outflow. The instructions should have a parts list.

Eheim, and I, suggest putting the valve assembly about three inches from the filter. IF that fits well with your tank and stand. Some people need to cut the line at other locations. Make sure the lines run relatively straight. If they can bend, they can kink. That can be bad news.

Thx for the quick reply Dbosman. Right now I have the valve assembly at about 9 inch and i have a hard time with it, seem to be very prone to kinking. I will set it 3 inch away like you said and also shorten the lenght of the hose to get it straighter.

May I chime in once more?
You are talking of hose-sleeve and valve.
What do you mean of valve and hose-sleeve?

The only thing I can think of as a hose-sleeve is the rubber connector one uses if one has an extra tall tank. This way you can shorten or lengthen the intake tube from top to bottom.

Several vendors offer a half a rigid elbow, to shape the flexible tubing from a filter, over the tank rim. Here is a clearer picture of one

Eheim Hose Casing. Prevents flexible hose from kinking when being used in any application where the hose needs to bend one way or the other.

Most canister filter manufactures ship or offer at an additional charge, a valve set of some kind that allows you to turn off the water to and from the filter. They usually have a disconnect so you can shut down the water flow and disconnect the filter for easier cleaning.

Again, here is a link to Big Al's site showing one.

The Eheim Double Tap Connector allows you to control the flow of water passing through your hosing, and shut it off completely. Simply adjust the two ball valves, and disconnect the hosing from the center to remove your pump or filter for maintenance.
