Eheim Canister Filter media for a planted tank?

I was just wondering how I should pack my canister for use with a planted tank. And more importantly what media should I use. I know for a planted tank I need more mechnical filtration then biological. Some help would be appreciated.

I would use a coarse then a fine pad on top and fill the rest with ceramic noodles. If you're paranoid, put in a bed of ehfisubstrat for insurance. I have a 2213 on my 20 gal planted and it works great.

Thanks. btw what is the exact name of the noodles cause I'm not quite sure which one they are, and how often do you change the media (3 months?) and how much of it do you change? (Sorry for the silly questions, I've never used canister filters before)
