I just purchased a new Jager heater from my LFS and it states on the box that it is a submersible heater. However it also has a "water level" line on it and it reads "Do not immerse beyond water level" just above the line. It also states in the directions that the water level must never be over the water level mark. I'm confused here...Is it fully submersible? Does anyone else see this on their heaters? My LFS sold it to me as a submersible heater and stated that they used them in their own tanks. Did I buy the wrong heater?

Theyre submersible, the line is there for some strange reason, legal reasons or something.

I have heard more than once that the new Ebo's aren't as good, but it must be better than the cheap piece of junk my first LFS sold me. I left my house the other day and the heater had been running great and stayed at about 78* for weeks. When I came home it had dropped to 72*. So I moved the dial one click over and it went up to 78* again. Needless to say the heater is not accurate at all. So after that and a few other fish problems with my first LFS I switched to a new LFS. The new place is great and they suggested I go with this heater. I have also seen everyone here talking about these heaters so I figured they must be good.

It is fully submersible. I emailed eheim the other day to ask them about that water level line. They wrote me back that the heater is still fully submersible but now that it is made in Germany a new certificate must be granted before they can say that it is fully submersible. The bad news is I bought one a few weeks ago and it stuck on me the first night and drove my tank up to 86 degrees before I noticed it. It was set on 76 degrees. I took it out overnight and tried it again the next day letting it sit in the tank an hour (I did 30 minutes the first day) before I plugged it in. It still stuck and wouldn't shut off for anything. I went out and bought a Rena Top Light Excel and so far it has done well. I tend to believe those that say Jagers quality might have gone down when bought by eheim. I really miss those old green Ebo-jagers. They not only looked better but also worked very well.

You may also want to check out the Rena Cal Excel heaters. They are fully submersible, even in Canada. They keep my temps. quite stable, and the settings are pretty easy to see inside the tank. OTOH, if you hate dipping your hand in to adjust the thermostat, consider either the Won Brothers titanium, or ViaAqua steel heaters, which have an adjustable thermostats outside the tank as part of the power cord.
