I think we have finally decided on a 36 gallon bow tank for our new upgrade. For it to fit into the place I have for it, it is going to have to have a canister filter. The opinions seem to point to Eheim as the best filter. I don't really mind that, but I hate the green tubing, and also the outlet is limited. I really like the outlet spray bar in the Rena Filstar, but its reviews aren't as good. Any Ideas or comments?

Tubing

Make your own I am in the market for a new filter for a 100 gallon tank and i belive i am going to buy the xp4 filstar and i intend to make my own pickup instead of the black/gray i will drill holes into rigid clear tubing and mount it in the aquarium as for the green tubing outside the aquarium replace it with tubing from the home depot or well stocked aquarium store should have clear
tubing of the same size

if my tastes are anything like yours, you wont regrete buying an Eheim canister filter. After years of useing H.O.T. type filters i finnaly bought a larger tank and after much research, bought an Eheim Pro II 2128.

When i first hooked everything up, primed it, and plugged it in i was sure it was defective because i could not hear the motor run!!!! But thats just how quiet they are. My Airpump is MUCH loader than the filter is.

If ya dont like the green tubeing just replace it with clear. As for the rickup and spraybar:

This is the spray bar i use with mine.

I was NOT however, impressed with Eheims owners Manual. But from the pictures you can figure most of it out easily. Plus they included like, 10 extra suction cups.

Love my eheims

I have had several eheims. I love them. I have one that has run since 92 and the only thing I had to eplace was the impeller and shaft <was getting a little noisy> I did howerver replace all the orings and tubing to keep things in good condition. I am getting 2 eheim filters wet/dry 2329 with the built in heaters for a new 75 gallon I am getting next week. Only thing I do not like in particular is the green tubing. I wish they were clear or black, no big deal though. I can't see how you an go wrong, you really get what you pay for.

The new fluvals (same company) are pretty well designed. They also come with a DVD instruction so if your too lazy to read then yeah.

I've never been more impressed with another brand of aquarium equipment. I loved my Emperor400s but my 2126 is almost too good.

I love how I don't have to worry with dirt in areas i can't reach it, any kind of noisyness.. maintanance is extremely easy and cost effective. With my Emperor400s I'd be replacing the $10 filters every month. Considering I'd run two Emperor400s with dual filters, it could really add up ($40 a month on filters). With this, I can buy a big bag of aquarium microfilter for $5 and it lasts 5-6 filter changes.. just cut to size

In any HOT filter I've had, you have to reach down into the filter after removing it (which can be messy) to scrub it really well.. even when you do that, you still get gunk that goes back into your aquarium.
It's almost impossible to make HOB filters look new afer heavy use. Without spending any time on this one it still looks brand new, I can't get over that. It's mess free cleanign the filter itself, just unhook it, take it to your bathtub and dump it.

Great filter. I don't care what anyone says, it is, by far, the best built aquarium equipment you can buy.. they may be more expensive up front but they will pay for themselves in no time with the flexibility and options for filter replacements.

I would recommend buying the "Installation Sets" however. I bought an Installation Set2 and it matches the quality of the filter itself, the old stuff that came with the filter didn't. It was my only complaint and it is a well founded one, they just, simply, are.. uh.. they could be better (and they are with the inexpensive installation sets)

I know it seems goofy to get this excited about a filter.. trust me, it isn't. They're good..

I have some Eheim classic filters (2260, 2x 2217, 2213) and I'm going to buy more just as backups incase they ever stop making them. I like them that much. The 2260 is a freaking monster but its a bit noisy compared to the others. I think I'm going to wait until some super duper sale and buy another 2260 and one more 2217. The 2213 is going to be put towards my 20 gallon tank and replace a penguin 125 biowheel filter.

Ok. I got an Eheim Ecco 2234 tonight. I won't get my 36 gallon bow for about another month, but I though I would let it run on my 15 gallon for the next month to cycle it for the move to the 36. The flow is a bit much for this small tank, can anyone tell me, is it ok to restrict the inlet valve long term, to slow the flow down?
