does anyone have any or has anyone seen any eight striped barbs? I was at a local Petsmart one day and they had this eight striped barb. They told me it was a schooling fish but they only had the one. I liked it and sort of felt sorry for it so I brought it home and went on a search for more. Every local pet store I found had none. After 3 other local petsmarts I found 2 more so I bought them too. Then I find out they don't plan to get anymore. At the same time I began a search on the internet about the fish. I was finally able to stumble across it's scientific name of Eirmotus Octozona and was able to find some info by searching for that. Most petshops have never heard of them and no one knows how to get any. 2 of my 3 died so I'm down to 1 but would love to get some more. they are about 1" long and sort of clear looking with 8 vertical black stripes. here's an address to a photo of one. http://fnp_barbs.tripod.com/barbs/eightbandedbarb.jpg

has anyone seen these anywhere? I was told it was a "false barb" but I'm not sure exactly what it is or really how to treat it. I would definitely vote it the most harmless, non-agressive fish I've ever seen. It goes out of it's way to avoid baby guppies. Kyle

hadn't heard of it before your post... looked it up in fishbase.net
it is the only species in that genus
gets to just over an inch( 3.5 cm)
native to Thailand and western Borneo

not much on the fish by official scientific records

yeah I've noticed. I had searched a few months ago for them and I searched again last night after posting this question and the only new page I could find was this forum :) oh well, I guess I'll just have to hope they get more popular or maybe find some shop that will special order them for me. thanks, KYle

I wonder if you could mix it with Tiger or some other barbs. He may be less lonely that way...
