EMERGENCY: Black Moore sucked into filter.

I have an over the side of the tank filter, and my black moore was tail-first stuck in the tip. I thought he was dead when I first saw him, and I immediately unplugged the filter to stop suction. To my astonishment, the fish struggled out. He has obvious tail fin damage, and I fear he may be paralyzed in the read half of his body.

I need to know the fastest way to put this fish out of his misery. I don't have clove oil, and he's small, so I can't bash him. Is the next best method the freezer? Baking soda solution + freezer? Help me fast! It kills me to see this fish suffer!
 
Well, first i would wait for a day to see if fish recovers or not. If there is no sign of recovery then probably it is the time to get rid of the fish. Choping the head off is the fastest and the most painless method in absence of clove oil, just be careful with the knife. Other ways are adding alcohol in a small container with fish, freezing, bashing, microwaving, grilling, puting the fish down the drain - whatever suits your taste.
But i would definitely wait some time in case fish can recover from paralysis as it is the biggest concern. Fins grow with time, in some cases damaged fin may take months to heal.
 
Yes you should wait a day or so,try melafix for the fin damage....:dance2:
 
iPod has been put to rest. (My kids named him.)

I wish I could wait a day, but I could see that his spine was bent and likely broken, with no prospect of recover. If I had waited a day, he would probably have suffered a more painful death. :(

RIP iPod.
 
I agree with Zing. Wait a day or maybe 2-3. You never know if it will recover or not. And if it doesn't improve. Then the fastest way to put yourself at peace and the poor Black Moore is the guillotine. So good luck and I hope the fish does survive. (and plus it depends on how long you owned the fish)
