EMERGENCY! My betta is sick

I just did a thread search on "sick bettas" and one of the threads suggested using the small "betta bowl" and floating that in the tank to keep the temperature up. That sounds like a good idea BUT what about the filtration?? I'm going to head to Walmart for some medicine and aquarium salt - can anyone thing of anything else I might need to pick up? (by the way, thanks so much for all of the fast replies...i LOVE this forum!)
 
You dont need to worry about the filtration if you keep his water changed very frequently. Also - since he is going to be in a small ammount of water i wouldn't feed or very little (if he even shows interest in food). If you feed and he doesn't eat it then remove all food before it can decay.
 
Thanks so much to everyone!! I'm getting ready to leave for the store but will try and post a picture of the little guy later so you all can take a look first hand. Maybe someone will recognize something about the little guys' condition. Thanks to all!!!
