I just changed my water. About 10%. Went to watch the football game and about a half hour later I noticed my fish swimming very funny. I quickly started to change the water again, but by the time that I was done, all but 2 are dead. That icludes about twenty blue colbalt zebra babies. What just happened. I'm going to do another water change in a couple of hours, but I have never seen this before. Anything else I should do? Please help!!!!!

i have no idea but my best guess is the new water you added could of had much different parameters of some sort and it shocked them, or it had some kind of chemical in it that killed them... are any of these ideas possible? it is wierd that just 10% could alter the water enough to actually kill them though...

Why so many changes? if changing it caused a problem in the 1st place, why do it again? not trying to be harsh, but when youre upset you don't always think of these things. Do you have an alternate or q tank? put the survivors there. for now i'm going to say your fish were already sick and your water change timming was a coincidence and you had nothing to do with thier death.

This used to happen to me on all my early water changes. I found out my tap had too much chlorine in it, so now I treat all my water(out of tap) during water changes. If your tap is usually fine, it could be due to heavy rains or other natural phenomenon that affects your water supply. Sometimes heavy rains themselves cause the shift, or the chemicals used to purify the water are increased due to whats washed into the water supply. A PetsMart around here lost 90% of its stock when the city upped chemical usage after heavy rains w/o telling anyone. Had no fish for a week :(

I didn't think that it was the water that actually caused it, or at least that was what I was hoping. I also used a new sponge that I bought from Dr. Fosters. I thought that might of had something on it. Well, I did do the 90% water change because I noticed one thing. When I put one of the survivors in the bucket with water out of the tap and some aqua quel+ it seemed to come back to life. Had three left and now down to two. This just sucks. When will I know to add fish again? My tests are fine.....
