OK one of my Platys has both of its eyes looking like something bit them and like theyre coming out. What is it? will it can it survive?

And both of my stripped Rafaels look sick theyre barely swimming and seem like theyre going to die soon. What can it be.

I just did a water change because my ammonia levels were out of control because of the Ich treatment I did that just ended today.I used Quick Cure that I bought at Walmart can this be causing all of this havoc? Please Help!!

It could be pop eye, here's a good informational link for the disease...

http://www.fishjunkies.com/Diseases/popeye.php

your other fish probably are under A LOT of stress from the ammonia levels...let us know what ur params are...it's most likely ur problem. Do some water changes, and if they don't improve, then it could be something else.

It sounds like he has a case of pop eye. I've never had to deal with it so I don't know how to treat it, trying searching this site and/or googling pop eye.

Also, what are your water parameters? It sounds like you may have a mini-cycle going on.

In the future try using the heat/salt method for ich outbreaks instead of resorting to meds, generally works a lot better and way less stress on the fish.

Sounds like popeye. From the book I just read, it said that sometimes an antibiotic will help. Sometimes this will work itself out on its' own.

Well I wish I could tell you what my parameter are but I ran out of supplies last week and al I have left are Ammonia test strips and Im going to run another test on that right now. Before I did the water change my ammonia levels were up at 3.0 and now theyre at around 0.25. I'll be buying testing supplies tomorrow hopefully everything will be ok.

As for my Platy It seems you guyes are right and its Pop eye from the look of it. Does anyone know if its contaigous?

You need to get your ammonia levels even lower! As far as I know pop eye is not contagious I believe its generally caused by poor water conditions. Start doing LARGE water changes until you can get your ammonia to 0 and keep it there.

it can be contagious depending on the cause of the pop eye. Some are caused by infections, fungus, bacteria, etc. These are contagious, but others caused by excess gas build up and attacks aren't contagious...

Most medications can cause issues with the Biofilter. It is important to test EVERY DAY when using meds and do daily water changes if necessary. I believe it is for this reason that most folks here prefer to use salt to treat Ich. It is harder to do, as it is a little more complex than 1 drop/gallon, but it is much easier on the biofilter.

I believe most treatments for Pop Eye involve antibiotics. They MUST be used in a quarantine tank or your biofilter in the main tank will be completely eliminated.

With the treatment of any disease, there is no such thing as too many water changes, as fresh water helps prevent the fish from developing complications from disease. Pop Eye is one such complication. Obviously, water changes alone won't make Ich go away, but it can help the fish feel better.
