$10,000 for a the rare goliath wolf fish, $40,000 for a particular strain of koi, $30,000 for an arowana, should I go on.... Here in Japan fish are expensive.

Natak we get some wild discus over here that go for that kind of money. Just curious though, do you get many wild discus in the states?

Yeah I can get anything I want Ash, lol just as nice quality as what the Japanese get for a ton less. I know a few breeders here in country who have Japanese customers who come over every year or so and drop outrageous amounts of money on fish.

I can always take a road trip up to Montreal, about 3hrs, and visit Oliver at Below Water, he gets some of the best Wild fish in North America, "pricey" but good fish. There's also Alberto at aquatechnics in souther florida as well. Al Sebetta in Conneticut, also owns Simplydiscus.com just got out of importing wilds.

I don't even know what to say ,thease must be endangered threatened or near extinct fish, you should start a discus club Nat seems you have some connections already . u in canada or us ? 3 hours to montreal .its 4 hours for me .i'm wondering what city that puts you in.hamilton ,barrie , buffalo lol sorry just curious.

I'm in the US, in Vermont. There's only really two of us in the entire state that I know of who are seriously into discus, the other is a moderator at Simplydiscus.com Its hard enough to start a fish club here let alone a discus one. The fish are far from endangered, in their wild habitats they are extremely prolific with a population doubling time of around 18months.

The expense comes in with grading, the number of the quality fish you get out of a spawn, and simply the effort it takes to get a good parent pair, spawn and raise the fry, then sell them. Its not uncommon for good breeders to cull 1/2 of a spawn because of minor issues, just because they don't like giving out anything other than top notch stock.
