I just got home and I checked my 10 gal tank where I keep endlers and red cherry shrimp and I found a juv shrimp with out its head. It wasn't even that small but a little bigger than a endlers fry. I just got these shrimp like a week ago and its the first time I had them.

Lucky I put the berried shrimp in a differnt tank but that tank has endler fry about a week old.

I didn't think they would eat shrimp of that size. Do u guys think that it had its head bitten off?

Also do u think endler fry is big enough to eat shrimp that hatched?

i think that fish are opportunistic feeders so its entirely likey the fry would try and eat the shrimp. Do you have alot of cover for the shrimp to hide in? I have about a million baby shrimp in the 36g with gourami but they all hide out in the java moss so are relatively safe.

I agree with JM, but alos would ask... are you sure it was the shrimp itself and not just a molted exoskeleton? The first time I saw one post-molt, I freaked.

Yeah there are adult shrimp and dam another one died today. I don't think it was just a exoskelton because I examined it today. And it seems to have the shrimp body in it.

Im gonna do a water test but I didn't think of it because the fishes are doing extremely well.

The newest death is an adult shrimp so I think there must be something wrong with the water quality. However the tank is a bare bottome with java moss and other floating plants, do you think that would stressed them?

Do you use any fertilizers in the tank? Also, keep in mind that the shrimp are alot more sensitive to ammonia and nitrites that the fish are. They do need really good water.

nope i never had any ferts. I don't understand, my fish are doing awesome so i thought there was absolutely nothing wrong with the water.
