Enough aeration

Hi all, happy holidays.

I have a 90 gallon with five 2-inch goldfish in it. I have a C-360 canister filter. The return for the filter is a disperser. This ripples the surface of the water in about 1/2 of the tank.

The fish are doing great, but I'm wondering if this is providing enough aeration, and whether it will when the weather, and therefore their water temp, warms up, and when they get bigger; they seem to be growing every day!

As far as suggesting equipment, if you think something is needed, I would opt for reliablity and quietness as being more important than cost (within reason of course!)

For mosr set ups, and comditions, the surface agitation should be enough. You could add a powerhead to ensue the rest of the top is agitated or use a long spray bar on the C-360 output that covers the whole tank.

I prefer an air pump in most cases since I like the look.
 
I have the smaller model C220 and I am sure you have enough surface agitation. The square return head can be oriented at any angle but flow comes out in only 2 directions. Rotating the head will change where the flow goes and how much it stirs the surface. It could also be set up slightly higher in the tank so that it breaks the water surface. It would be noisier but would give an amazing amount of oxygenation of the water.
As Bob Bishop said, you could also use an air pump to create currents in the water if you like the look of the bubbles but you don't need to.
 
Thanks for the input. I was playing around with it and did move the head up towards the surface. I'll also pick up a spray bar and see how well it works.

But for future reference as they get bigger and if I decide to get an air pump, are the wispers fairly quiet and reliable? Any other brands to recommend? Actually, I do like the look as well, I'm just concerned about noise.

If your not sure add more! I have the magnum 250 at surface, cascade 1000 at surface, bubble wand on 1 side and a 300gph power head over the wand so it sucks up the bubbles and shoots it across the tank. AIR ALL OVER!
 
For one or two air stones or even a small bubble wand in a 90, a Whisper 20 air pump is probably enough; a 40 is a bit louder & will give you LOADS of air...

My overstocked 75 with 7 goldies is in the basement at ~ 72-74F, I just have the outflow from a Whisper 60 HOB for aeration, no problems...
 
I have added powerheads to my goldfish tank. I have two Maxi-Jet 600's, They work great for adding air. I've given up on air pumps as have found them to break and be noisy after a few years.
 
Thats plenty aeration. Goldfish are surface breathers too so its no problem for them to come up and get it themselves.
