Since arguments have sprung up a lot recently in various threads, why not argue here?

Pick one or the other, neither, or both, and state (you don't really have to) your reasons why/why not.

Both. Though, my views on creationism aren't so cut and dry. To create doesn't mean it happened all of a sudden as in BAM!..and then there was man. I think life and the universe was created and has evolved in much the same way our 'science' tells us it has. Even so, we've yet to really even scratch the surface. I don't think we humans have the mental capacity to fully understand it just yet. I don't believe the universe, all matter and life itself just happened by chance...brought forth from nothing. I believe the universe was created along with the laws and designs of nature(physics) to govern that creation. The 'creation' is self sustaining and yet dependent on the creator at the same time.

Well:

"Please keep religious and political threads out of GCC (and AC for that matter)"

Guys, we just had a thread shut down a few days ago because of this and Dale had to take time out to come in and tell us all to behave. If we all follow the rules at AC the mods and admin have less work to do and we can all be sure that we will enjoy the benefits of behaving...ie having GCC.

This thread could actually be interesting as long as you keep religion out of it. If you base this thread on pure scientifics, then go for it. I know its hard for some of you, but try it :)

Personally, I like my old neighbors theory. We were all outcasts from another planet that were deserted here on Earth. If you think about, England did the very same thing on a smaller scale. BTW, I love Ausies, you guys are great. :D

Hey I am an Aussie, thanks for that Dale.

Well Il give it a go kind of late though. It's pretty hard to keep religion out of this though. Because my argument is based around facts of one religion period. Ill try to get some info tommorow that does not have to do with the best selling book of all time. For one example before I go to bed a Swedish scientist can't think of his name right now spent his whole life trying to disprove creationism and he simply could not do it. he wrote a book called origins of life. You can't say one is fact and one is fiction they are both based around theories of inductive reasoning. Even creationist make an extremely good argument againts the fossil records which I will explain later because it 12:15 and I'm going to bed. But why can't we bring religion into this, what do you call atheist their bible is evolution.(same with hitler, not saying it to make some of you mad it is true just read Mein Kampf) I'm sure we all can keep this debate civil.Thumbs up :thm:

I know it is hard not to bring religion into this but it will have to be in a very generic mannor. I know that creation is based on religious beliefs but try to stick with very generic terms as to not offend one of the many religions out there. My wife believes in the pagen ways. I like the ways of the Hawaiian beliefs. Each person has there own beliefs which is great, but, keep your own beliefs to yourself. If not, you will offend others and the thread will be shut down.

I myself lean toward the scale of evolution with the exception of man. We just dont fit into the equasion.

The "Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy" (at least in book form.........I have not seen the movie yet) dedicated a chapter or two to this idea. To paraphrase:

Way back in prehistory, on the other side of the galaxy, a highly advanced race of humans finally found a way to eradicate society's woe and create their own little nirvana. They identified the people who contibuted the least "real" bennefit and caused the most pain and suffering among others. They rounded up all of the lawyers, politicians, and insurance adjusters; packed them into a rocket and blasted them into an eternal exile, floating through space. They eventually crashed here on earth where they wasted no time screwing things up...........the common cold, imported by our outcast ancestors, killed the Neandertals.

More directly related to the original topic:

I'm usually hesitant to take any of the evolution / fossil dissmissers seriously. This is not necessarily because they constitue in the scientific community. No matter what one's agenda is, he/she will be able to cite at least one scientist / expert who will give pseudo intellectual credence to their idea.

If I really tried hard enough, I could probably find a scientist or a doctor who will validate my claim that eating fast food five times a week, smoking a pack of cigarettes a day, and laying around in front of the TV all day really does contribute to a healthy lifestyle.
