Hi all!

I got a dilemna here. I just finally got the filtration setup on our 180 gal but our Little Giant 4-MDQX is just TO LOUD.

I designed it and built it all and after a few test runs and changing a few pipes around it works beautifully now. I had it running for about half a week when we finally just got tired of hearing the Little Giant 4-MDQX-SC pump!

It's just to loud for our living room and as you can see I soundboarded the inside of the stand! (I'm a little worried about it rotting but if it begins to collect moisture I'll have to tear it out).

Heres some other options I've found but I'm hesitant to order any of them for fear that I'll end up with another pump that I can hear 4 bedrooms away!!!

Anyone have experience with Little Giant or any of the following pumps?

1. Coralife Turbo-Sea 1270
2. Lifeguard Quiet One 4000
3. Gen-X PCX-40

*I'm returning the Little Giant back do Drsfostersmith.com. It actually is defective but I'm not sure how much the defect is effecting the the noise level because its the HUM, not the WA WA WA thats annoying. Theres a defect in the ceramic propeller where the molded plastic around the magnet never got to the bottom of the mold, heh which causes the prop to spin out of harmony, you can hear a WAH WAH WAH WAH. Only thing i can think of is maybe the pump is working harder causing more noise. If you restrict the flow to the pump it does get louder so maybe the pump when its functioning 100% is actually QUIET like the advertise, i dunno but regardless ive lost a lil faith in this brand of external pump!

We have a Direct Drive Sequence pump our 2000 gallon pond outback and it's quieter than the Lil Giant under this 180. Granted its direct drive and not magnetic drive but it pushes 3x as much water as this Lil Giant. Very dissapointing =(

Bottom line I need a quiet external pump that pushes around 1100-1300gph and doesnt require a intake or return larger than 1" (since that what I have plumbed.

The overflows on this tank (two cornerflos) only do about 800gph each (they're 1" drains) and the system works perfect at the ~1200gph that it's been functioning at.

Thanks for any experience you can spill for me! =)

I forgot about a Mag-Drive 18 pump I had so I found some hose and hooked it up tonight, I can hardly hear the thing! And this pump is rated at 1800gph. Wow I feel stupid for getting the little giant pump now.

It's hooked up with 3/4" vinyl tubing but theres a few elbows i had to use since I couldnt find one piece of tube long enough so theres no way its pushing 1800gph right now but its **** silent!

I'm going to reconfigure the return plumbing to fit this pump and give it a shot. See how it does pushing up through 1" pipe .. the pump has 3/4" NPT fittings but im gonna give it a shot anyways.

But please, more suggestions are welcome, I'm not sure this pump will give me the GPH yet.
