External Overflow Box For a Sump Question

I am about to get an external overflow box for a sump and have a question about returing the water to the aquarium. What do you all use, PVC pipe or tubing? I don't believe the external boxes have anything built in for returning the water correct?
Thanks

Pipe.

Haven’t run one myself yet (building a few though) and seems some folks use soft tubing for at least part of the return line to prevent motor vibrations from being transmitted through the hard pipe. Soft tubing is also a lot easier to deal with. My tank is drilled so I'll have a bulkhead, short piece of PVC pipe going to a clear PVC swing check valve then to a barbed fitting and something like vinyl tubing go from their to the return pumps fitting. The drain line will be pvc pipe all the way. Once in the tank the return will be pvc up and over the overflow chamber and will make a pvc spraybar. Will try and paint it all black with Krylon Fusion paint.
