I just went and picked up an Elite airstone for about $3. When I got home and put it in the tank, the thing floated...I put it in the bottom of the tank and covered it in gravel to the point it couldn't pump air, and the stone still floated. Do I need to get it waterlogged, or should I just take it back?

Take it back! I bought two on sale... and no wonder why! they both didnt work no matter what I did to them. :(

All my airstones (when I used to use them) floated to some extent... Just anchor the airline with a small rock or the like...all should be sweet.

anchor it....seems like the ideal solution to an air dispensing object in water...

Yep, anchor it. I usually bury a length of the airline with gravel or use suction cups tied to the hose to keep it in place, well that's what I did when I used them. Now I've got one just for decoration (to look sorta like smoke coming out of a castle) that is threaded into the "window" of the castle.
