Fancy fantail in a 55...

Hey guys, I got back into fish keeping, about a year ago, after a 7 year hiatus. I now have a 75 assorted cichlid (African mbuna), a 125 species only P.crabro (African mbuna), and a 20L planted (co2 & med to high light) with 12 neon tetras.

I have two 55s that are not being used at the moment, and my wife really wants to have some fancy goldfish. We've been doing quite a bit of research on goldfish care, and there seems to be a lot of disagreement on tank size for goldfish. We have pretty much decided on fancy fantails, but I am not sure a 55 is sufficient for two fancies. Any opinions would be welcome to help in our process of setting a tank up for goldfish. I've seen people use all different kinds of substrate, what is the preferred type? (Sand, small gravel, large gravel).

Planning to have two aquaclear 110s on it. So my filtration should be sufficient. Any thoughts on substrate?

sand is nice because it'll be easy for you to vacuum up the massive amount of poop goldfish create, but anything you like will work fine.

I believe a 55 is good for up to 3 fancy fantails MAX. They are messy so thats why i say 3. 2 AC110s should be sufficient. Sand would be my first choice because goldfish do pick at the bottom and gravel may be a potential hazard if they swallow gravel or it gets stuck in the mouth.

3-4 fancies.sand or bare bottom.this makes it easier for your filter to pick up detritus.if you decide that you want plants,anubias,hornwort and swords are great for goldie tanks.for food,hikari or nls pellets,bloodworms and duckweed or shelled peas.try not to mix the delicate fancies with the more rambunctious strains.
