now that would be telling
ok we all know that feeding tropical flakes to gold fish is a no no.

we all have been told that gold fish flakes are made with their needs in mind and that it is what we are to use.

pardon me my wife is a lactation educator so as i understand it the choice to feed gold fish flakes is the same as feeding a baby formula. *that is awful bad for the baby but goodish for moms who don't care.*
basically the number one ingrediant in these flakes is fish meal.

"SOYLENT GREEN IS PEOPLE .... IT'S PEOPLE!!!!" :hitting:

but aside from that i have thought about this long and hard.

gold fish eat any thing they feel like and if we are to use preprocessed food shouldn't it be a veggie based one. in fact i have heard recomended to use the vegie based flakes like for mollies and platies. even algae waifers have been recomended on Wet Web Media by that bob guy none the less.

would it be safe to feed them a base diet of algae waifers with a day or two a week being gold fish flake *to finish off the bottle* then off to live bearer spirlina vegie flake?

or would that not provide a balanced diet? i already have alot of wafers to give since they are a staple for my brackish tank *violet goby, ghost shrimp, mollies.* and for my daughters crawdad so useing them on the gold fish would not be a problem supply wise.

i ask cuz one of my wifes fantail the bright orange one and the small tail *boy i bet he catches hell in the locker room fin envy is horrible :silly:* will get bloated looking *even more than usual for a fantail* and then there will be a long stream of poop and viola skinny fish again *poor fish is full of **** :headbang2:*

now i know these guys can live a long time and well with thier personalities growing on me i kinda want them to stick around.

so if it is safe to drop a wafer in for the main course i will do that :)

I prefer to give my fancies a mixed diet. I prefer Ken's no carb goldfish pellets (personal choice-- there are many quality foods on the market) and a mix of fruit and blanched veggies from time to time. I have always found that flakes stop them up and cause floatation issues for my fish. I haven't fed flake for years. Commercial goldfish flakes are not just fish. There is a lot of starch in there, as well.

A lot of goldfish owners make their own gel foods, and I believe that there is a sticky on that somewhere. I have just had good luck with what I use, and I really don't want to challenge a good thing. Different keepers have differing opinions on the issue, but I don't know of too many fancy keepers who use regular flake food.

I feed my goldies Omega One sinking pellets with a mix of skinned peas, blanched zucchini or crookneck squash, orange slices and algae sheets, as well as brine shrimp and blood worms three days a week.

ok i will look up the food for them.

just one more thing for those of you with kids.

"i asked nani for the peanut butter and all we had was tuna DO YOU KNOW WHAT TUNA IS ?
uh fish?
