Background: over 40 years experience with tropicals. Bred and kept angels and discus. Huge water changes correctly done, not an issue, I've always preferred an overstocked tank.

I've got 6 young fancy goldfish in a 40 breeder. None exceed 6-8 inches at maturity. No other fish in tank. It's lightly planted with plants goldfish generally leave alone, except the top is all duckweed, which I maintain as they devour it. The bottom is covered in 2 inches of glass marbles. Tank is kept at 65* fall/winter/ spring, then 75* in warmer months.

I realize it will be awhile before fish size and tank size become an issue, but is this do-able?

Ps I'm also using an Elite 55 and an air stone. I intend to add another Elite 55 when needed.

when they are mature i would only keep 3 in a 40 breeder (45 gallons). i recommend 10x filtration.400 gph for these very messy fish. one potential problem that i see is the marbles.there is a lot of space between them for detritus build-up. i suggest bare bottom or 1" or so of some nice sand. glad you have duckweed for them.keeps them from getting floaty since it is full of fiber. enjoy your goldies.i have kept them for 20 years or so.

Even with juveniles that are still small, I'd recommend stocking at full adult size levels. Mature fancies also get bigger than what you've stated if given adequate room/conditions.

What are those, tosakins?

Thanks for responses. Goldfish are no longer an issue. Colummnaris claimed them.
