favorite plant substrate

black flourite--- easy to plant.. looks awesome and its fairly cheap

3M Colorquartz sand S grade (Black)
Plants easy
Hold plants well
Looks great
And my favorite reason, you never have to gravel vac your tank.
I have never needed to clean up anything off of my substrate in over 6 months. Everything stays on the surface and either dissolves or filters out. So you only need to drain some water out for a water change.
I will never use anything but sand in my tanks.
Of course you still need good filtration and water movement.

I've used cheap gravel and regular fluorite in my tanks in the past.

After reading the thread about all the fish dying from gas from the sand, I'm worried about this... I want Colorquartz S grade too, I think I'm going to get some soon.

i like the eco-complete, covered up silica sand real crisp looking with the white sand on top and nutrient rich underneath for the plants

I love my eco-complete...have it in 2 of my tanks. The other one has flourite and plants grow great as well. I love the color and texture of the eco-complete the best though. :)

for the price flourite is great and plants do great in it
