aquaclear. with the exception of my fluval the only filters i run.

ive sworn by penguins for a long time, and they are still my favorite filters.

i have yet to try an emperor, but i hear they are a pain in the butt to start, but they do draw water in from the top, middle, and bottom of the tank.

i also need to try an Aqua Clear filter one of these days. maybe if my Cascade 150 HOB kicks ill replace it with an Aqua Clear.

I'm more than happy with my Aquaclear on my 10 gallon. I'll put an Aquaclear on my next tank too. :)

AquaClear are better for mechanical filtration. They have a higher flow rate and the motors never die.

That being said, I prefer Marineland filters because they offer superior biological filtration.

My recommendation is to Cut the blue mesh open and remove the charcoal out of the media carts they come with and then once a month, float the biowheels in your aquarium and spray the entire filter in your sink. Spray off the cartridges.

Spraying the hell out of the motor drop with hot water will improve your flow and you won't have start up problems or a slow turning biowheel anymore.

That is arguable, especially if you stack two sponges in your AC and top it with biomedia.

I was thinking I'd try to go sponge in the bottom, biomedia in the middle and another sponge on top. What biomedia is best? I've heard people ditch what comes with the filter and go with other options.
