My new 29 gallon tank is cycling and i am beginning to plan out the fish that i want. So far i have picked out bottom dwelling fish (pictus catfish), and a middle dwelling fish (Giant Danio), however im having trouble picking a top dwelling fish. Please post your favorite top dwelling fish, or the top dwelling fish in your aquarium so i can get some ideas as to what i want.

Thanks - Jighead

Actually, the Giant Danios are more of a top dweller than they are a middle dweller.

I love my Butterfly fish best for top dwellers. I have a Needlenose also but he doesn't have as much personality as the Butterfly. I like both for being tough and not as seemingly fragile as Hatchets.

I have a school of hatchetfish in my 37 gallon planted tank and they are FANTASTIC! Lively and fun and great schooling behavior. I also have a school of Giant Danios in my 75 gallon to tease my cichlids.

However, I would not mix hatchetfish with Giant Danios because those fish are big brutes in comparison and too fast to mix up at the top.

Roan Art, hope I have influenced your Hatchetfish desire!

Here is another repeat pic of my 37 gallon showing a blurry school of hatchetfish.

And here is a pic of the 75 gallon with the danios (although the Oscar is no longer in that tank). . . (I hope it works. I know I can't post directly but I think the link will take you there)

I have been doing some research and some websites suggest that the scissor tail rasbora might be a good match for me. Does anyone have and experience with the scissor tail rasbora and if they are more of a top dwelling fish?

Thanks - Jighead

oh I love rasboras, they are great, I currently have a school of 9 in my 45 gallon. Gouramis are also great top swimming fish.

i have a group of four harlequin rasboras, 3 silver hatchets, and 7 guppies that are my main top dwellers. The guppies are about to move to their own tank though, they keep trying to mate with my mollies

I had a killifish until he leapt to his doom that was probably the coolest and most attractive fish I've tried keeping.
