i have 2 electric yellows and 3 electric blues at the moment and the yellows arent really eating.i use tetra color bits tropical granules for food.the electric blues steal it all but even when the yellows get a chance they dont eat.i just got them yesterday could this be y?or should i be feeding them something else.plz get bak to me thanks!!

I like Hikari Cichlid Excel, although those fish will do well with algae wafers, too. I'd be careful about feeding them foods that are too high in protein or fat, especially the yellows. They get intestinal problems quite easy and they do better with foods high in vegetable content. (Fresh veggies would be great, like zuchinni slices or spinach.)

HTH,
Jim

ooo, great info JSchmidt! does this hold true for all cichlids, or just the yellows?

i don't mean to hijack the thread, im just wondering if this would also apply for my rams. thanks!

My comments were directed primarily at mbuna; cichlids are a widely varying group of fish, so it would be impossible to make a blanket statement about all of them. I haven't kept rams and I know almost nothing about them, so I'll leave that question to those in the know.

Best,
Jim

I'll butt in here about the Rams, both Bolivans and German Blues appreciate a high protein diet. Live foods, frozen, and high protein pellet/flake foods are very good for them, in the wild both species are mainly insectivores and thus have a high protein intake.
