I've have seen a lot of different oppinions on feeding fish that i needed to know for sure. Right now i feed my clown and purple firefish twice a day. They seem to gulp it down pretty fast and i've seen people say that you should feed fish only 2-3 times a week. Am i overfeeding. What are other peoples opinion on this. Sorry for all the questions lately i've just been having a lot of trouble with my tank.

well feeding your fish twice a day seems like an large ammount of food in your tank. From that being said im going to assume the problems your having with your tank are most likely high Nitrates, ammonia and/or phosphates. think about it for a second, How often do you think a fish in the wild eats? Not very often maybe one good meal every other day or so. With that said i would tell you to cut back on the feeding. With only the 2 fish you should only need to feed once every other day. Your fish may be consuming the food right when you put it in the tank but they are producing more waste. That waste is in turn converted into toxic ammonia then Nitrites and finally nitrates. How many gallons is your tank? What are the water parameters?

my params are :
nitrates:like 1
nitrites:0
ammonia:0
calcium: 480
Phosphates:?
I have a 10 gallon tank

just i had a starfish die and i have mushrooms that are shriveled up and a hammerhead that's not doing very well. Why would i have bad phosphates if i use RO water

I have test strips for alkalinity and there not accurate but its somewhere between 180 and 240 ppm
