Hey, I just got my first kribs last Wednesday. I have 5 fry that are about 1 inch each and a young pair that are about 2 inches each. The 5 fry are not in the same tank as the young pair. The 5 fry are in a tank with 10 diamond tetras, a bunch of cherry shrimp, some ramshorn snails, and a ton of pond snails. The older pair are with 10 diamond tetras, 20 L387 plecos, and some mts.

I'm a little bit concerned that they aren't getting enough to eat. I had gotten some NLS Cichlid food, but it's too big for them to fit into their mouths. I've been throwing in a few pellets as my other fish also like them. I'm hoping that they are picking at the pellets after they have softened, but I'm not sure. I have also tried tropical flake and crisps. I'm not sure if they've eaten those either. I have also dropped in Hikari sinking wafers for the plecos that they may have picked at.

The lfs was out of cichlid flakes when I stopped in. The seller was feeding with flake foods.

What do you feed your bottom dwelling, small mouthed cichlids like kribs?

I've only been keeping my Kribs for about a month, but they seem to enjoy aquadine flakes. http://www.aquadine.com/
I got a (rather large) free sample from them a while ago and they like it. I keep three 1" kribs in an 18 gallon with five silver? tipped? tetras and two otocinclus.

I feed my kribs Aquaeon and tetra color enhancing flakes. They really bring the colors out, plus a black gravel tank and black background help out also. They don't seem to like the granules as well as the flake though, but that could just be my kribs. The 10 babies i have in a 10g eat crushed flake and granule powder from the end of a jar.I also mix a variety of frozen food into their diets.Adults and babies both like daphnia and mysis shrimp. Neither seem to fond of bloodworms or tubiflex though. The main thing is to try and keep a varied diet for your fish.Hope that this info helps. You might want to try target feeding your kribs after your other fish have eaten.Maybe a turkey baster with some thawed daphnia and aquarium water released near them would help? just a thought.

Hmm. I think I'll try that turkey baster idea. I'd feel better if I had the time to actually wait and watch to see if they are getting anything.

I forgot to mention my frozen foods as I was more concerned about a basic food of flakes or pellets or crisps. But I do feed frozen foods including brine shrimp with spirulina, bloodworms, tubifex worms, daphnia, cyclops, etc. I did feed a combination of brine shrimp w/spirulina, tubifex, and daphnia this morning. I chop up the cubes into small pieces so that I can feed several things the same day to sort of simulate a natual hunting experience. I'm probably full of crap, but it makes me feel good.

Anyway, the only flake cichlid food that my lfs (in Rice Lake) carries is OSI, and the rest are floating pellets which are waaaay too big for kribs. There is another lfs, but it's the exact opposite way that I go for work. The two are actually about the same distance from my home, but I hardly ever go to the one in Eau Claire. I think they carry a few other brands, but they also have OSI. I've never really looked at their cichlid foods before though. Also, there is a Petco and soon to be a PetSmart there too, so I can also check them if I have to.

I'll look for the brands you two mentioned also.

sandman took the words right out of my mouth, currently i had received 20 baby bristelnose plecos at 1/2 inch about two weeks ago and wouldn't eat anything i placed in the tank til i tried aquadine bottom feeding crisps, almost instant when the crisps hit the bottom they were soft enought to start feeding on them, really fast softing action and so far they really enjoy them, you could try this go to the link sandman supplied and click on the free sample and maybe try something else out their S/H prices are really cheap and i believe there out of california i am stoked about their foods and for now on they have my business..
