Feeding Mushroom

No need to add more food, the fish in your tank will do fine as food. The more you feed it, the larger it will grow; the larger the fish it can catch and eat.

Quite true. I got so caught up in my new discovery that I didn't think about the monster I was creating. Am I to understand that if i don't target feed it, the thing will be fine, similar to other mushrooms?

It depends on your tank, but usually yes. It can survive quite a while without you feeding it. But it does catch and eat fish. A six inch one can probably eat a cardinal fish from what I've seen.
