When I bought my Chromis, the LFS sold me some frozen brine shrimp to feed 'em. Is this OK? What I'm reading here, brine shrimp is not the most nutritious.
How much should I feed these guys? The squares are like 1/2"....is one too much for them? How often? I don't want to overfeed them or starve them!
Thanks!!
Robbie

i also have brine shrimp for my clowns. Its left over from feeding my mollies in my FW tank, I would give them about .5 a cube a first then slowly add the rest.

I would suggest geting some blood worms or something more nutrious.

For Chromis spp. (particularly C. viridis), I recommend a good meaty diet that simulates zooplankters. My suggestions are mysid shrimps and cyclopeeze, both of which are very nutritious. However, I would vary the regimen with several foods, including a high quality flake or pelletized food. Something often overlooked with Chromis spp. is their fast metabolism. Please feed these fish generously and frequently (especially frequent when small). Target 2 smaller feedings per day for shoaling species, like C. viridis.

Cool...thanks. I have no idea what you said :D.
I'm glad to hear they need to eat frequently (they are smallish)...my son will like that. I will visit the LFS this weekend and get some more nutritious food then...thanks so much!!

Sorry about that. Chromis viridis is the green chromis (which is what I am assuming you have). The foods mentioned are readily found online and at most LFS stores. Mysid shrimp are small (~.5 cm) crustaceans that are very nutritious and great for fish that normally pick at organisms in mid water. The same applies for cyclopeeze, except it is much smaller.

My LFS was out of the Mysid shrimp, but I bought some cyclopeeze granules. they wouldn't touch it. So then I bought some Tetramarine Saltwater flakes, and they love it. The blenny even came out to snatch a piece or two.
I'll try and get the Mysid shrimp...the LFS mixes it with brine shrimp and some other stuff to feed their fish.

Granules? I was referring to the frozen version. They are small, whole cyclops with a blood red color.
ooohhhh....oops. :hitting:
I'll look for the frozen stuff tomorrow.

Just a thought, but I would rinse the shrimp in a net once it thaws - helps keep all kinds of bad stuff out of your tank. The water they typically freeze the mysis or brine in isn't the purist water - that might just be me being overlly cautious. I feed cyclopeze, arctic pods, reef cuisine and a combo of mysis-brine-spirulina (sp) through the week to give variety. Phytofeast to the corals daily. Silversides - mysis to the anemonies.
