Feeding with an overflow filter

Anyone have an overflow that can offer advice....My flake and brine that floats seems to go straight to overflow and into filter within a minute....thinking of shutting off sump pump during feeding for 5 - 10 minutes each time. Is this a practical solution or am I missing something simple once again?

overflows tend to do that.. so you have to contrapt you own way of stopping it.. i dont recommend the pump turn off cus what if you forget? :/

Turn off the sump pump during feeding and then you will not have this problem. Better for the fish to get the food then the filter.

maybe a sponge so water can still flow in but food wont.

I turn mine off as I have yet to find a better solution.

I just take a pinch of flake and push it under the water. The absorb water quickly, sink, and very few make it to the overflow this way as long as the fish eat quickly. If you do this and still have alot getting into the overflow, feed small amounts underwater and don't re-feed until the fish have eaten it all. They'll have to learn, but it should happen quickly.

I just started using slow sinking pellets. It seems the fish like them better too.
